Sara Aagesen, Secretary of State for Energy, presented the Electricity Planning for the 2026 horizon on February 24, 2022. The Planning, of a binding nature, defines the infrastructure of the electricity transmission network for the coming years and is “a key instrument for the advancement of Spain towards a decarbonised society and economy model”, in the words of the secretary. The new electrical planning represents an investment of 6,964 million and will allow cost savings of the electrical system of more than 1,600 million per year. It will maximize the penetration of renewable energy in areas with better resources and less environmental impact, and will optimize the use of new technologies, such as batteries or synchronous compensators. For the first time, it has undergone an intense public participation process that has included a strategic environmental assessment.
